Houston Rockets first-round draft pick Royce White is a no-show at training camp and said he and the team are working on a plan to address his fear of flying.

The 6-foot-8 White was the 16th overall pick after one season at Iowa State. White suffers from anxiety and fear of flying. He says on Twitter that he's working with the team on an "innovative plan" to balance treatment with the NBA schedule.

"Anxiety isn't keeping me from camp," White wrote, "taking a Proactive approach to my mental illness instead of reactive is.(hash)StayingAheadOfMyDisorder."

White said he has an agreement with the team to take a bus to select games. KRIV-TV reported that the agreement is pending league approval. The Rockets would not comment beyond a statement that said they "are committed to Royce's long term success and we will continue to support him now and going forward."

White said he offered to buy the bus himself.

"I will not travel every game via bus," he wrote on Twitter. "It was decided that the less flying the less stress."

The Rockets opened training camp this week in McAllen, near the Texas-Mexico border, the home of their development league affiliate.

White averaged 13.4 points, 9.3 rebounds and five assists at Iowa State last season. He initially enrolled at Minnesota, then left the program last year and eventually transferred after pleading guilty to theft and disorderly conduct in an incident at the Mall of America.

He's been open about his anxiety throughout his career and bluntly broke it down for reporters at his introductory press conference in Houston in June.

"Here's how it goes," White said. "I'm scared (going) to the airport, I'm scared going up, I'm uncomfortable in the air and I feel like a million bucks when we hit the runway."

White was also absent from the Rockets' media day Monday. The team made the short flight to McAllen later that day, and White started tweeting about his discussions with the team Wednesday night.

"There is nothing but very positive strides being taken right now between I and the Houston Rockets to support health," he wrote. "This innovative plan is being well thought out by both parties, when it's done I think an executable plan will be there...A Healthy plan."

White added that "my health now is great, the best its ever been." He said "the long term is the goal here."

Lou Williams will reportedly sign a multi-year contract with the Atlanta Hawks, according to a tweet on Tuesday afternoon from Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com.

Williams took to Twitter on July 6 to let his fans know that he would not be returning to the Philadelphia 76ers, the team that drafted him 45th in the second round of the 2005 NBA Draft. Considered to be one of the steals from that draft, Williams spent his entire NBA career up until now in Philadelphia.

He was widely considered to be one of the top candidates for the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award last year, which ended up being given to James Harden of the Oklahoma City Thunder. In 64 games off the bench last season, Williams averaged 14.9 points and 3.5 assists in 26 minutes per game. He made $5.3 million with the Sixers last season.

NBA News 2012: Magic Johnson: Nets Have No Kobe, So Howard Should Come to LA

Washington Wizards v/s Orlando Magic February ...Washington Wizards v/s Orlando Magic February 4, 2011 (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Magic Johnson got on Twitter yesterday to say that Dwight Howard should add the Lakers to his (very short) list of preferred team(s), now that Steve Nash has signed on. He went further in an interview with the L.A. Times, dissing, as he often does, the Nets prospects. It's good to be noticed.

"I think Dwight Howard is making a big mistake by not considering the Lakers," Johnson said. "Dwight Howard cannot finish a game. What happens is big men put you in a position to win, but they don't win it. Kobe Bryant always closed out games when he was with Shaq. There's no Kobe Bryant on the [Brooklyn] Nets team."

As the Times' Mike Bresnahan quickly pointed out, "They do have Deron Williams and Joe Johnson, however."

Lord willing, I will play again soon,” Roy tweeted, using the account of friend and former University of Washington teammate Will Conroy. “Yes, I’m preparing for a comeback. I’m training daily. I’m preparing for a return next year. I appreciate the love. Hopefully I’ll be back on the floor soon. Health is good.”

NBA News 2011: Pippen says Jordan is the greatest

Chicago Bulls Scottie Pippen 1995Image via Wikipedia
Scottie Pippen made it clear he thinks Michael Jordan is the best player ever - not LeBron James.

Speaking to reporters at a youth camp in suburban Lisle on Friday, Pippen says he was simply giving "LeBron some props as a player" when he suggested to ESPN radio last month that James could be better than Jordan.

Pippen says "all know that (Jordan's) the greatest player that ever played the game" and that his comments were taken "a little bit out of context."

NBA News 2010: Ron Artest & Matt Barnes Are “The Bash Brothers”

Matt Barnes with the Orlando MagicImage via Wikipedia
With the L.A. Lakers’ offseason signing of Matt Barnes, it’s hard to argue against the idea that the two-time defending champions have formed the most agitating duo in the League: The Bash Brothers.

Barnes is known for his defensive presence and ability to take other players out of their comfort zone — feel free to get Kobe’s opinion on that matter. I wouldn’t exactly describe Barnes as a “lockdown” defender, per se, but he’s among the more relentless and enthusiastic in the League, and his ability to help the D isn’t just a matter of checking opponents. Matter of fact, Barnes ranked second in the League in rebounds per 48 minutes among small forwards, with 12.3, only behind Charlotte’s human crash dummy, Gerald Wallace. With the reputation of being an edgy, temperamental player, Barnes’ actions have been highly documented throughout the League as a forewarning, such as the ball-fake at Kobe’s face in Orlando, or the 20 technical fouls he’s picked up over the last two seasons, or even when he slapped a summer pro-am league coach recently. There’s no doubt that Barnes’ intensity can swing both ways. It can either be an asset or hindrance to a team, so Barnes needs to check himself and make sure that his emotions don’t carry over negatively on the Lakers — the “Zen Master” won’t put up with that kind of nonsense.

As for Artest, where do I begin? The former Defensive Player of the Year ended the Pacers “Thuggish Ruggish Bone” era after fighting in the stands at The Palace. Artest is still vulnerable against quicker players, though, while Barnes has some quickness and quite a bit of power in his 6-7 frame. I expect Lakers fans to give these two a standing ovation when they’re on the court together, the same way Ducks fans greeted Portman and Reed during their times on the rink — beating up on the opposing teams best players and smiling and laughing while doing so.

Obviously, Artest is excited about it.

“Matt is tougher than nails!” Artest wrote on Twitter after Barnes was signed. “Matt has the heart of a lion on steroids wit extra chest hairs and three testicles screaming ‘Adrian’!!!!!! Tougher than Richard Simmons trying to take off his spandex!! Matt Barnes is tougher than my rough ass feet!! Tougher than a penguin on steroids!!”

Like I said, welcome to the Asylum.

Boxing News 2010: Floyd Mayweather: 'I'll cook that chump'

Floyd Mayweather, Jr in a WWE ring. Bradley Ce...Image via Wikipedia
Floyd Mayweather Jr., who has steadfastly refused to answer questions about the most recent round of failed negotiations for a fight with Manny Pacquiao, has unleashed a profanity-filled racist and homophobic Internet rant against the Filipino star.

In an approximately 10-minute UStream video, apparently made Thursday and also posted on YouTube, Mayweather repeated his assertion that Pacquiao uses performance-enhancing drugs, an accusation that resulted in a defamation lawsuit from Pacquiao earlier this year.

"I'm on vacation for about a year, about a year," Mayweather said. "As soon as we come off vacation, we're going to cook that little yellow chump. We ain't worried about that. So they ain't gotta worry about me fighting the midget. Once I kick the midget ass, I don't want you all to jump on my d---. So you all better get on the bandwagon now. ... Once I stomp the midget, I'll make that mother f----- make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice."

"The video speaks for itself," Pacquiao said in a statement given to ESPN.com by his publicist, Fred Sternburg.

"At this particular time I don't know if I'm gonna fight again," Mayweather said. "As of right now, I truly believe I am gonna fight again, but as of right now I don't have the urge to get up. But when I do got the urge to get up, believe me my UStream and my Twitter fans will be the first to know, and when we do come back, we will kick 'Poochiao' ass. So I'll let the fans know. Don't worry, we'll kick 'Poochiao' ass. He's gonna take the urine and blood test."

All terms had been agreed to in January for Mayweather and Pacquiao to meet in March, except for the drug testing protocol. Mayweather had demanded that he and Pacquiao submit to random blood and urine tests throughout the buildup to the fight. Pacquiao agreed to random urine tests, but they could not come to an agreement on the blood testing protocol and the fight imploded.

During the video, Mayweather also went on a rant about Pacquiao's record, even though Pacquiao has not lost a fight since 2005, and made false comments about the money each had received for recent fights and endorsements.

" 'Poochiao' got three losses and two draws and been knocked out twice," Mayweather said. "So, like I said before, once I beat him it's going to be a cakewalk and it's on to the next. ... We know Pacquiao made $6 million in his last fight and Floyd Mayweather made $65 million in his last fight. Three losses, two draws. Ohhh, hell no, this is America baby. We built on winning. Step your game up, f----t. ... That mother f----- Pacquiao, he can't speak no English. He never seen a contract he didn't like. Mother f----- signed with two companies [Top Rank and Golden Boy]. Look it up. And then this mother f------ with Nike only got 70 Gs. How stupid can a mother f----- be? Reebok gave me a million dollars for three weeks. I wore Reebok s--- for a week for a million dollars. ... This mother f------]'s name is Emmanuel. He got a fake name, taking power pellets."

Mayweather also broke out into a bizarre song in which he called Pacquiao a "whore" and added: "When we do come back, we'll kick 'Poochiao's' ass. I'm gonna fight the Pacman when he gets off the power pellets."

NBA News 2010: LeBron James, Move Over: Cavs Fans Should Embrace Mo Williams With Open Arms

Maurice Williams playing with the Cleveland Ca...Image via Wikipedia
If the Cavaliers are looking for a new face for the franchise, they should look no further than to their veteran guard.

The Cavs’ second-leading scorer for the last two seasons bumped into James at Hopkins International Airport over the weekend. It was their first face-to-face encounter since James left behind his former teammates, home turf, and fans in a slickly marketed, highly publicized, personal pursuit of trophies in Miami.

When trade rumors about the seven-year veteran hit their zenith in June, Williams posted an impassioned plea on his Twitter account:

“Pls don't trade me,” he tweeted on June 23. “I'm not ready to go. I'm begging. My work ain't done yet. I'm on both knees....pls. I'm serious.”

Then came the airport encounter with James.

“Part of me is still sour,” he told the Akron Beacon Journal this week, “but I wish him the best.”

Then Williams put the capstone on an ongoing series of comments that should endear him to Cleveland and Northeast Ohio for years to come.

“I want to look back at my legacy and say, ‘I had a great career in Cleveland.’ I don't want to say I had a great career in Cleveland, Portland, Chicago and Dallas. You can't have a legacy that way.”

“I love the city. I love the fans. They welcomed me and my family and I respect that.”
